I'm confident that the introduction of these new standards, classes, naming conventions, and logos will go a long way towards helping the average consumer (and even the educated one) make some sense of the tire fire which is the SD card market. /s
Thank you! Everyone who gripes about the new smartphones not having an SD card slot drive me nuts. SD cards are obnoxiously slow, get corrupted all the time, and did I mention they're slow?! Ufs needs to happen yesterday. Or better yet bga packaged ssd's are a thing now. Our phones should have 128-256gb of at least Sata if not pcie ssd for how much they cost. Apple has been using pcie ssd for their flash storage since iPhone 6 iirc. Samsung has embedded Ufs since Galaxy S6. Others still chose emmc and SD card. Ugh.
Never had an SD card go corrupt on me, or one that wasn't fast enough to serve its purpose, usually store music, images and documents. The quality of the device and card itself probably play a factor here, at least when it comes to failure rates.
Just heard that SDA is now working on a next generation SD card standard with PCIe/NVMe interface... so it may actually answer your wishes...though it might be too late for them due to the UFS card on the doorstep... let's wait and see...
Great. That will be doubtless be ready to ANNOUNCE (not ship...) just around the time that Apple switches to nvRAM for storage and so remains at 10x the Android speed.
Oh SDA, always living five years in the past, no matter what changes.
I for one really like the SDA and think all their standards are really nice. I can quickly look at any SD card and tell if it's fast enough for my camera, which is all I need to know
The sequential speed requirement for the A2 spec should have at least been 20MB/s. Even 4000 read IOPS at 4KB would be 16MB/s. A very low bar considering the requirements of 4K video (record or playback), app cache or browsing photo's.
We now need an "A3" app speed specification. I suggest: A3 = 40 MB/s Seq, 8000 RR IOPS, 4000 RW IOPS If you can't make that then call yourself an A2 and don't complain.

I'm not so confidentI've seen enough Real World test results far lower than advertised to "believe it when I see it"
IOPS / IOPS / IOPS
If you want to start a debate about IOPS and get a dozen different responses, just name the best thumb drive for a Linux gaming system with STEAM
B.T.W.
Regardless of speeds and feeds listed on the packaging, can you name that thumb drive?

I'll just leave this here, where it's easily seen: "/s"I mean I get you're a troll but it's like you aren't even trying.

Your post was longer than 140 characters so it became impossible for some people to fully comprehend it before responding.lilmoe - Saturday, March 11, 2017 - link
Some technologies just need to retire for everyone's sake. UFS FTW.lilmoe - Saturday, March 11, 2017 - link

I have, but those were basically obsolete by the time that happened. I have also had a phone fail apparently due to memory degradation (Nokia N-Gage).YosSIP - Sunday, March 12, 2017 - link

Even with these new sets of standards and indicator markings? It is a real mess now. As others have said, time to skip the lot to UFS.tygrus - Sunday, March 12, 2017 - link

I'm going to need to add a magnifying glass to the cost of new SD cards so that I can read the dozen tiny logos on the front of itAnd then bookmark this article so I can decipher them all..
